West Papua Shoots Down Indonesian Military Helicopters

On April 24, 2019, the West Papuan National Liberation Army (TPNPB-OPM) shot down a military helicopter belonging to the Indonesian government. They shot five Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) members. However, the Indonesian government and military and police leaders in Papua have never admitted to this incident.

Indonesian Military and Police Forces in Ndugama have been stealing livestock belonging to the community, and also burning houses.

An insurgency has simmered in Papua, which makes up the western half of the island of New Guinea, since the early 1960s when Indonesia annexed the Dutch-controlled territory.
