Two soldiers were killed and three others were injured last week in an attack by guerrillas in Aurora province.
The ambush took place Tuesday in Barangay Diaat, in the area of Maria Aurora.
It is a reconnaissance platoon of the 91st infantry battalion carrying out a security patrol which fell under guerrilla fire.
The shooting lasted about an hour. Recently there have been a number of clashes between government forces and the NPA despite the latter’s declaration of a unilateral ceasefire until April 30.
It was in response to the United Nations’ call for a global truce so that all states could focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. But the government’s ceasefire ended on April 15.
The Communist Party of the Philippines has declared that the armed forces have carried out six aerial bombardments since the declaration of a state of health emergency on March 16. The last aerial bombardment took place last Sunday in Saranggani province.
