On Monday afternoon, six Filipino soldiers were killed and 23 others wounded in an ambush by revolutionary guerrillas on the island of Samarr in the center-east of the country.
Three platoons of the 14th Infantry Battalion were moving on steep terrain at Sitio Bangon when the guerrillas unleashed the simultaneous explosion of six IEDs. The guerrillas, who were about fifty, then opened a heavy fire against the soldiers who responded. The shooting lasted 50 minutes and the insurgents withdrew before the reinforcements arrived.
With the fascist Duterte regime in power in the Philippines, guerrillas are expected to continue attacking the military and other state forces.
