On Saturday July 8, the ELN ambushed a group of government soldiers, killing two and seriously injuring eight others, near the northeastern town of Tibú. The soldiers were attacked with explosives as they moved across a bridge. The government claims it shot dead a senior ELN commander on July 4 during an operation on the border with Venezuela. It would be the commander of the front “Efraín Pabón Pabón” and responsible for the front “Domingo Laín Sáenz” bearing the allias “Dumar” or “Culebrito”.
