Riots in Tunisia

The police stations and national guard in Feriana (Kasserine governorate) were attacked and ransacked on Thursday, April 18, 2019 in response to a murder by customs officers. This explosion of rage follows the death of an alleged smuggler from the region the day before, killed by the customs officers during an attempt to control.

Young people threw stones at security guards’ cars, destroyed surveillance cameras installed in some streets and closed the main avenue in downtown Feriana.

The murder of an alleged smuggler on Wednesday by a customs patrol near Lehchim is the cause of this outburst of anger against the state’s henchmen. The customs officers had at that time chased several people accused of smuggling and shot at one of them, causing his immediate death.
