Officer Killed in Guerrilla Ambush in Philippines

A Philippine army officer was killed Wednesday in a clash between soldiers and guerrilla fighters in an isolated village of Labo in the Camarines Norte province.

This officer, who bore the rank of 2nd lieutenant, was assigned to the 96th Infantry Battalion operating in this province. His detachment, which accompanied paramilitaries from the Provincial Mobile Force, was ambushed in Barangay Malaya. The shooting lasted approximately 30 minutes.
