Miguel Peralta Declares Indefinite Hunger Strike Following His Final Hearing

Published September 23, 2019

Statement from Miguel in September 19th, 2019:

Once again, I am using my body as a weapon of struggle against injustice. Beginning today, beyond my silent strike, I will stop consuming food.

Hunger strike menu:

My breakfast, a snack of patience.

My lunch, a buffet of resistance.

My main course, solidarity.

My dessert, freedom.

Miguel will end his hunger and silent strike when he achieves his freedom. We call on you all to continue echoing the scream for justice and freedom. For every day he continues in prison, the risks toward his health will worsen. In response, the prison director in Cuicatlán, Oaxaca, Martin Porfirio Reyes Magdaleno, violated the visiting rights of Miguel Peralta and harassed his visitors.

Miguel Peralta is an Indigenous anarchist prisoner of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón, Oaxaca. Miguel was detained for defending the traditional forms of organization in his community and denouncing the abuses of a cacique group that holds economic and political power there. After a tedious trial, Miguel was sentenced on October 26th, 2018, to fifty years in prison for two actions that he did not do.
