Israel Launches Wave of Repression as US Expands Assault on Palestine

While Israel continued its quotidian brutality against the occupied Palestinian population, the US escalated its assault as well.

West Bank

Israeli occupying forces opened fire on three Palestinians in the occupied West Bank killing two and injuring one after a car accident that inadvertently crashed into a soldiers’ vehicle.

The troops opened fire on the vehicle in the Kafr Nimeh village, west of Ramallah on Monday. Locals said that it was a normal car accident while the Israeli occupation forces claimed it to be an attack.

The murder has been described by Palestinain authorities as a “brutal execution” carried out “in cold blood.”

Locals identified the murdered Palestinians as Amir Mahmoud Jumaa Darraj, 20, from the Kharbatha al-Misbah village, and Youssef Raed Mahmoud Anqawi, 20, from Beit Sira.

Gaza

At least three Palestinians were injured on Sunday night as the Israeli occupation forces opened fire on dozens of protesters on Gaza border.

The Great March of Return’s night demonstrations were halted in November 2018 after Israel had vowed to ease the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by expanding the fishing zone, allowing Qatari financial aid into the enclave, and offering other facilities.

Israel showed no commitment to the agreement so the night demonstrations were resumed weeks ago.

The Palestinian youths taking part in the night protests, who also call themselves “night confusion units”, usually fly fire balloons and kites over the border fence, launch fireworks, and chant national songs during the night.

The night confusion units say that their goal is to confuse the Israeli soldiers stationed at the border and keep them on permanent alert.

US Assault Continues

While Israeli occupation forces continue to slaughter Palestinians the United States continued its international assault on the Palestinians

The United States has officially shuttered its consulate in Jerusalem, downgrading the status of its main diplomatic mission to the Palestinians by folding it into the U.S. Embassy to Israel. For decades, the consulate functioned as a de facto embassy to the Palestinians.

The move has been described as “the final nail in the coffin” for the US role in so-called “peacemaking” in the one-sided conflict.

The U.S. military has also deployed its most advanced air and missile defense system to Israel for the first time, U.S. and Israeli military officials said on Monday. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system is an anti-ballistic missile defense system designed to shoot down short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase by intercepting with a hit-to-kill approach.

This masssive political and military shift is a significant development as the US is increasingly embattled in the Middle East.
