Greek Anarchist Prisoner Giannis Michailidis Escapes from Prison

Greek anarchist prisoner Giannis Michalidis escaped from prison in Tyrintha on June 7th. Details are scant at the moment, but we at AMW English wish Comrade Michailidis best of luck in his flight toward freedom.

Anarchist Giannis Michailidis was arrested in 2013 in connection with two armed robberies along with his comrades Nikos RomanĂ³s, Dimitris Politis and Andreas-Dimitris Bourzourkos. He was serving a sentence of 16 years and 4 months. Additionally, in 2015, and extra 15 year sentence was added in connection with the attack of a police officer in Pefki. Giannis is also known as “the archer of Syntagma” since he was arrested in February 2011 in a riot during a general strike, firing a bow and arrow at the riot police who protected the Greek Parliament in Syntagma Square.
