ELN Releases Three Minors Recruited by Colombian State

On Monday 23 December, the ELN Eastern War Front handed over three minors to a humanitarian mission in a rural area of Arauca.

These three miners, aged 14 and 15, were trained by the army and then placed in the ranks of the guerrillas to infiltrate and carry out spy missions there.

They were identified by the guerrillas. These three spies had been recruited at the age of 10, two in Aguazul, Casanare and the third in Yopal.

It is, according to the ELN, a systematic method of the Colombian state which approaches rural communities, popular or with a history of struggle and arouses among young people an interest in becoming intelligence agents or spies of armed forces and police.
