Clashes WIth Police Against Videosurveillance in Lyon

Clashes between young individuals and the police broke out on Monday evening in the town east of Lyon. A car was set on fire by several individuals just under a pole holding a video surveillance camera. Firefighters, under the protection of the police, tried to intervene but were unable to gain access to the fire; a group of individuals prevented the fire soldiers from getting through.

Numerous mortars and other projectiles were fired at the police deployed in the area.

According to other police dailies, this was “a response to the statements of Jérémie Bréaud, the mayor, who announced at the weekend that 300,000 euros in aid from the region would allow the city to reinforce its camera network.
