On Monday, March 4, a clash took place between the Colombian army and the front “Andrey Peñaranda Ramírez” of the Ejército Popular de Liberación (EPL). Two members of the EPL were captured.
Two other guerrillas were also wounded and captured during the operation. They are Yorban Ropero Robles Durán and Uriel Sánchez, the latter apparently playing the role of Chief Financial Officer of the front.
The EPL is a Colombian guerrilla group created in 1967. The EPL’s first military operations were in the Córdoba Department, on the Caribbean, during the late 1960s. The EPL is and has been a smaller organization that FARC or the ELN, but has continued its conflict with the state along with the ELN.
