Christopher Columbus statues in San Franciso and Providence were targeted with red paint on Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrated the second Monday in October, this year on October 14th.

In Providence, Rhode Island, the statue is located at the intersection of Elmwood and Reservoir Avenues was covered with red paint. There was also a sign that said: “Stop Celebrating Genocide.”

In San Francisco, California, the Christopher Columbus statue near Coit Tower was covered with paint and cirle-a symbols, and the words:“Kill all colonizers” and “Destroy all monuments of genocide.”

The explorer helped launched centuries of genocide against indigenous populations in the Americas.
