Chaos Erupts on the Greek Streets, as Delta Cop Beaten Bloody in Nea Smyrni, Athens!

A Greek Delta cop* was pulled off his bike and beaten to a bloody mess as riots broke out this (Tuesday) evening at a protest made up 5,000 people in Athens against cop violence. Some were holding banners which read “cops out of our neighbourhoods” and “parks are for laughing, not for hearing the words ‘I’m in pain'.” The latter was a reference to the video footage showing a young man shouting “I’m in pain” as he was beaten Sunday at the Nea Smyrni square. The demonstration follows rage at video footage showing an officer beating a man with a baton during a patrol, in which several people where set upon by Delta cops, even blamed for starting fights with the cops.

Clashes broke out after a group of around 200 masked protesters headed towards the cop station in Nea Smyrni, the Athens suburb where Sunday’s beating had taken place. The demonstrators threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at a cop station and the assassins responded with tear gas and water cannon. Some protesters have been arrested even before the clashes broke out for possession of Molotov cocktails and weapons. Journalist and photographer scum at the scene also came under attack by the protesters.
