Published January 24, 2019

During the night of Thursday, January 24th, a company car belonging to the construction firm Implenia was set on fire in Bern, Switzerland in solidarity with the Basel 18.

The Basel 18 have been accused of participating in an unauthorized demonstration on June 24, 2016 against racism, repression, and displacement. Some capitalist and state institutions were attacked during the demonstration.

From the statement: “This arson attack, among other things, is part of the resistance against the extension of the Bässlergut Prison in Basel, and also part of the struggle against all prisons and refugee internment camps. Implenia is involved in the construction of the Bässlergut Prison extension.

Also, this attack was a small gesture of solidarity with the Basel 18.

We urge everyone to come to Basel on Friday, January 25th, 2019 for the court case. There will be a solidarity gathering at 7:30AM out the front of the Basel State Criminal Court. There will also be a rally and demo in front of the court at 11AM.

Whether they are guilty or not, we are in solidarity with all the defendants facing court for June 24th!”
