Armed Road Block in Support of Mapuche Political Prisoner César Millanao in Chile

Armed with heavy-caliber firearms and camouflage clothing, a group of weichave (Mapuche word for combatants) cut off traffic on Route P70-S that connects the communes of Cañete and Tirúa in the Bío Bío region.

The armed action was in support of César Millanao who faces an oral trial against him in the Cañete Court and who has been in preventive detention since December 2019.

The action occurred at the Lleu Lleu Bridge where the weichave set up barricades in order to stop traffic on both lanes of the road.

The group of weichave carried AK-47 and M-16 rifles.

The road block took place as armed resistance to the Chilean state is ongoing in Wallmapu (Mapuche territory). Recently, shots were fired in the vicinity of the Ercilla Sub-Police Station in the La Araucanía region. As a result of the armed attack, the Chief of the Police Unit was injured in the right ciliary (part of the eye) and in the right arm.
