On Wednesday, July 24, fellow anarchists Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos, members of the Fire Cell Conspiracy, were released from prison. Gerasimos Tsakalos was arrested along with his friend and partner Panagiotis Argyros on November 1, 2010. His arrest occurred after sending a bomb package to a shipping company in Pangrati. Five months later, Christos Tsakalos was arrested in a coordinated operation.
After the arrest, both fully claimed their actions, proclaiming themselves “proud members of the Fire Cell Conspiracy.” During his detention in Korydallos prison, the CCF was responsible for the actions of the Fenix Project, including the car bomb of the prison director and the sending of a bomb package to the former head of the anti-terrorist unit, Dimitris Chorianopoulos.
The partners were initially sentenced to more than 70 years in prison, then reduced to 20. The partners appealed to the Paraskevopoulos law and were released after serving 8 years of 20-year sentences.
